At CAtuned Off-Road, we’re always eager to hear how our products perform in real-world conditions, so we reached out to Steven V., a long-time member of the Nissan Frontier community, to get his honest review on our Nissan Frontier Front Bumper and Skid Plate. Steven took these products to the rugged trails of Moab, Utah, where he put them through their paces. Here's what he had to say about his experience.

"Hey Max, as promised, here’s my full review after putting the CAtuned Off-Road Front Bumper and Skid Plate for the 2022+ Nissan Frontier through its paces in Moab, Utah. Spoiler alert: I’m incredibly impressed.

First Impressions

Right off the bat, this bumper is hands-down the most purpose-built and functional “low pro” bumper I’ve seen for the 3rd Gen Nissan Frontiers—and it’s not even close. I love the DOM Hoop and receiver hitch; these are two standout features. Other brands either don’t offer a hoop or throw in a flimsy, bolt-on option that’s more of an eyesore than anything else. This one, though? It’s solid and looks great.

I did have a small issue with a shipping mix-up, but thankfully, I was able to reroute the delivery just in time for my trip. Installation took me about two hours, which was pretty straightforward, and then I was on the road to Utah.

Performance in Moab

As soon as I hit the Moab trails, I didn’t hold back. I wanted to see what this bumper and skid plate could really do. The increased approach angles were noticeable right away, which gave me the confidence to tackle obstacles head-on. And where I still lacked angle, the bumper’s heavy-duty build and the skid plate stepped in perfectly. I took some serious hits to both, and they shrugged off every single one of them like it was nothing.

I also got to test the winch, and the bumper’s construction was so strong, it felt like the truck wasn’t even there. It performed flawlessly the entire time.

Design and Aesthetics

Aside from performance, I have to mention how great this bumper looks. The lines and hoop design really complement the truck, and for me, the most functional gear always looks the best. This bumper nails that balance between form and function.

A Small Suggestion for Improvement

Now, the one thing that could use a tweak: during my run on Hell’s Revenge, the 3D-printed adaptive cruise sensor cover came off. The sensor itself kept working perfectly, but I’m worried that it might get damaged over time. Most other brands hide the sensor behind the Nissan logo with a bracket, which seems like a good idea. It’s something worth considering for future versions, but it’s a minor issue overall.

Final Thoughts

All in all, this bumper is a winner—especially for those of us who really push our trucks to their limits. There are other guys running this bumper who are better at capturing the aesthetics, but hopefully, my hard use and review complement that. I’ve been part of the Nissan Frontier community for years, including my time at Alldogs Offroad from 2019-2021, and one thing I know is that Frontier owners are unique. They like to support businesses that truly care about them and the community, and I can tell CAtuned is one of those companies.

I’ll keep recommending this bumper wherever I can, and if you guys come out with any other new products, I’ll be first in line to give them a beating on the trails.

Thanks again for a great product. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with next!"

Best, Steven V
